Laminate flooring uses a high-resolution wood image under a hard, clear wear layer, on top of a fiberboard core. It costs less than hardwood, resists scratches well and installs as a floating floor, which makes it a good fit for bedrooms, living areas and rentals.

Laminate was one of the first floors Face of Wood installed when the company started in 2007. We install it throughout Stuart, Palm City, Jensen Beach, Hobe Sound and nearby Treasure Coast towns.

• Laminate is harder on the surface than vinyl and often looks closer to real wood, but standard laminate does not like standing water. Water-resistant lines are available for kitchens.
• Luxury vinyl plank is waterproof and the better pick for bathrooms and laundry rooms.
• Hardwood and engineered wood cost more but can be sanded and refinished later.

1. Remove old carpet, tile or flooring and haul it away
2. Check the slab or subfloor and level low and high spots
3. Lay a moisture barrier and underlayment
4. Install the planks with expansion space at the edges
5. Finish with baseboards or quarter round and transitions between rooms

Yes for most dry living spaces, as long as it goes over a moisture barrier on concrete. For bathrooms and laundry rooms, luxury vinyl plank is the safer choice.

No. The wear layer cannot be sanded. Damaged planks are replaced individually instead.
